Luminox Watches
L.A. Police Gear is now a registered dealer of top quality Luminox watches. The Luminox Watch Company began as an American success story and is evolving into a global brand. When purchased from authorized dealers, they come with a 2-year warranty from the manufacturer should any repair work need to be done. You'll also get free next day shipping from LAPoliceGear.com.

Bushnell Yardage Pro

Bushnell Yardage Pro

I've been using the Bushnell Yardage Pro for several years now. I've found it to be invaluable for estimating both long and short ranges and proving buddies wrong in the field. I've found that the people who thought they were so good at estimating range and had no need for a rangefinder, were never as good as they thought. Having it around has improved my own range estimating abilities and given me confidence while hunting. I've compared the accuracy at 100 yards with a manual measuring device and found it to be within 1 yard every time. But make sure the batteries have decent life left before you take it out into the field to show up your friends. After a few years of use, the battery started to die and I was getting inconsistent readings.

I recommend getting one that claims to range out to 1000 yards or more, because they're never effective out anywhere near the distance they claim. If you plan to shoot 400 yards, get one rated for 1000 yards (or 800 yard rated for 300 yard shooting). And keep in mind that you'll need a steady rest just like when using any other optic or your hands will be too shaky to stay on target.

Auto Shipping Transport

Having twice made long trips out of state to pick up vehicles, I've discovered it's not worth the hassle. You spend several long boring hours in the car dealing with all the jerks on the road. You're navigator says, "That's our exit," and you look over just in time to see the sign as you pass by it. You get to the dealership, spend seemingly endless hours closing the deal, then you have to deal with the equally long drive back home.

When I found my dream car roughly 480 miles from home, just for kicks and giggles I got a shipping quote from Auto Transportation Worldwide to see how much having it delivered would cost. They put my information to several other auto shippers to find me the best deal. Long story short, my car was delivered to my door for only $295. Yes, it was slightly more expensive than if I had picked it up myself, but avoiding the above mentioned hassles was well worth it. Now I recommend auto shipping to anyone as an option. Most people assume it's too expensive, but if an auto shipper finds you a trucker who's already headed out that way it can be mighty affordable.

Knives of Alaska Cub Bear Caping Knife

Knives of Alaska Cub Bear
Having worked in two sporting goods stores I've had the chance to play with...I mean, examine hundreds of knives. The Cub Bear by Knives of Alaska is one of the few that I was able to shave hair off my arm right from the factory. And after purchasing one for myself I found that I was able to keep that razor edge after sharpening at home with my Lansky knife sharpening kit. Knives of Alaska doesn't skimp on quality in any area of their products. The sheaths are made of thick rich leather. All the edges and points meet evenly -- a sign of quality workmanship overlooked by most. This particular model is great for caping out big game. It's perfect for the taxidermist for doing fine work around the eyes. Yet the steel is tough enough to cut through small limbs that block shooting lanes. I'd recommend it as part of any hunter's pack.

Bates Boots

Bates M9 Assault boots

It was only a year and a half ago that I became a fan of Bates boots. I needed a nice looking pair of black boots for work that were comfortable. No, I wasn't a police officer or paramedic. I worked at a bank with a dress code. I've now worn out my first pair of 6" M9 Assault boots (used them too much outside of work for hunting) and I'm now on to a pair of 8 inchers. This time as a security guard. If you ask me, a good pair of uniform boots should have high polished leather and soles that look like you could kick the crap out of anyone.

Gerber Legend Series Multi-Tools

Gerber Multi-Plier 800 Legend

At the time I got mine, the Gerber Legend was the only quality multi-tool on the market that had spring-loaded pliers, which is what I wanted. Not to mention that all the tools can be accessed from the outside without having to open up the pliers, unlike most other Gerber models. That's a feature Leatherman has utilized for a long time, but Gerber features aircraft grade aluminum for their tool, plus they back them up with a lifetime warranty (as opposed to Leatherman's 25 year warranty). And finally, if it's good enough to cut out a damaged power cell on The Terminator, it's good enough to open boxes for me.
